RIDING high on the chart-topping success of its latest album Sunrise Over Sea , the JOHN BUTLER TRIO has announced a national tour.
The SUNRISE OVER SEA TOUR will arrive at CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on July 7.
It has already been an incredible year for the band with the third album Sunrise Over Sea debuting at number one on the national ARIA album chart.
Not since YOU AM I 's Hourly Daily has an independent band had a number one debut, and never before has a band on its own label.
It's the first time an independently produced and distributed Australian artist has accomplished such a feat.
Sunrise Over Sea is the first number one album for JARRAH RECORDS, the independent label started and owned by JOHN BUTLER and THE WAIFS. Butler heard of the news last month while on a US tour which included a performance at the SOUTH BY SOUTH WEST convention in Texas.
``To all who come to our gigs and have bought our albums, you are part of this dream,'' Butler said of the achievement.
``And this number one is all of ours to celebrate. It couldn't have happened without the great relationship between band and audience.
``As an independent musician this achievement is even more of a surprise and immense honour.
``I never dreamt, starting out as a busker eight years ago, that this could be possible.'' As well as claiming the top chart position, Sunrise Over Sea was certified platinum after only two weeks of release.
John Butler Trio will be supported on tour by MISSY HIGGINS. Tickets to the Sunrise Over Sea Tour go on sale this Friday from TICKETEK on 4921 2121.
