FOR much of 2003, THE LIVING END has been cooped up in the recording studio.
So its no surprise that the trio is eagerly awaiting an upcoming run of dates with the LIVID festival, which will kick off in Sydney at MOORE PARK on October 11.
Drummer ANDY STRACHAN - who joined the band in 2002 - is not only anticipating playing material from the band's new album Modern Artillery , but also making his debut at Livid.
``It will be my first time playing Livid, so I am really looking forward to it,'' Strachan said.
``We'll play a lot of the past hits like Prisoner of Society and Roll On , but we'll definitely throw in some new ones and see how they go.
'' Modern Artillery was recorded in Los Angeles over three months with US producer MARK TOMBINO who has previously worked with BLINK 182 and JIMMY EAT WORLD .
Strachan said the union allowed the album to adopt a diverse approach.
``We're a fairly live, raucous sounding band and Mark has quite clean production skills, but the two styles worked together well.
``There is a lot of variety on the album.
It has everything from country and western to balls-out punky rock.
'' Livid is one of a number of festivals that The Living End will play in 2003 following appearances at BIG DAY OUT, SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS and Japan's SUMMERSONIC festival alongside THE STROKES, RADIOHEAD and BLONDIE .
Strachan said the band hopes to complete an Australian tour through regional areas like Newcastle.
``Our main goal in Australia at least is to get out to some regional places because it has been a while since The Living End toured extensively in Australia.
``We want to get out to all of the out-of-the-way places that don't normally get bands like us out there.
'' Tickets to Livid are on sale from TICKETEK on 4921 2121 or SOUND WORLD .
