ON the back of her brand new album Tenderland , definitive Australian soul singer RENEE GEYER is on tour to celebrate the release.
Geyer will return to Newcastle and perform at WEST LEAGUES CLUB on Sunday.
Possessing what is undoubtedly the most versatile voice in contemporary Australian music today, Geyer will perform tracks from the new album along with a selection of her past hits.
Renowned as one of the great song interpreters, Geyer has a history of taking classic tracks and making them her own.
At age 50, Tenderland is Geyer's 20th album in her 30-year career as a singer.
The album was released on August 13 and offers a collection of the songs that have shaped her career as one of the world's great soul artists.
She reworks the music of OTIS REDDING, MARVIN GAYE, PRINCE, BOBBIE GENTRY, LULU, LEON RUSSELL and GLADYS KNIGHT .
The album features 11 songs and uses the musical backing of Daddy Cool's ROSS HANNAFORD, VIKA AND LINDA BULL , and STEVE HADLEY and BRUCE HAYMES from PAUL KELLY 's band.
The album is yet another feather in the cap for Geyer who rose to national prominence in the 1970s with a clutch of hit singles and albums.
Her hits include It's A Man's Man's World, Stares and Whispers and Heading in the Right Direction .
Geyer performed a sold-out show at West Leagues Club in 2002 and started the year off supporting the legendary RAY CHARLES at the Hunter Valley's WYNDHAM ESTATE .
Geyer has toured and recorded with artists such as CHAKA KHAN, BUDDY GUY, STING, JOE COCKER, JULIO INGLESIAS and NEIL DIAMOND.
In 1997, she organised a benefit concert for DRAGON 's MARC HUNTER , who had been diagnosed with throat cancer.
Tickets to Geyer's show at West Leagues Club are on sale from the club.
