FEW people could find similarities between teaching physical eduction and performing live on stage.
But STEVE HOGAN , who teaches PE to high school students and also stars in a tribute act to Van Morrison, is one person who can.
``Teaching and live performance really do complement each other,'' Hogan said.
``When I'm discussing social issues and self development with the students, I can speak from experience.
'' Hogan began his teaching career 20 years ago but he always held a passion for music along the way.
He performed in a variety of small bands before he decided to create a tribute to Van Morrison.
Four years have since passed and Hogan now stars in VAN THE MAN - THE AUSTRALIA VAN MORRISON SHOW.
Hogan said he not only decided to form the tribute act because of his vocal likeness to Morrison but also because of the Irish music star's broad appeal.
``When the band members were deciding on a concept, we wanted to play music that we truly loved as well as appeal to a broad audience,'' Hogan said.
``I think everyone has The Best of Van Morrison in their CD collection.
'' Hogan and his five- piece band will appear at BELMONT 16FT SAILING CLUB on September 20.
The show features all of Morrison's biggest hits including Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, Bright Side of the Road and Brown Eyed Girl .
``It's just a great feeling to be singing songs I love to audiences who truly appreciate the undeniable quality of Morrison.
'' Hogan said he hoped to take to the show to New Zealand at the end of the year.
``There are big plans for the next 18 months.
``It looks like we may be taking on the international market, which is quite daunting, but very exciting.
'' Tickets to Van the Man are on sale now from the club for $15.
