ACCORDING to Yorkshire-born comedian DAVE BURKE , everybody in his UK home town is a born comic.
And the best place to pick up a few laughs is at the local pub.
``That's how I learnt comedy,'' Burke said.
``I used to sit in the pubs with my dad, listening to these Yorkshire characters, and each one would have his own favourite joke.
``They'd say, `Come on, Jack, tell us about it,' and he'd tell us his favourite joke and he did it with every expression and perfect timing.
'' Now based in Sydney, Burke has delighted thousands of Australians with his British sense of humour.
``We were looking for more sunshine and saw in the paper one morning, `Come to Australia, we need you, 10'.
``And I thought, we can't afford a holiday this year, let's emigrate.
'' Burke's comedy career began at age 17 and he has since gone on to appear in cabaret, theatre and television.
Known to avoid topics such as political issues, Burke prefers to keep his comedy simple.
In 1996, Burke received the MO AWARD for Comedy Performer of the Year.
Burke regularly performs in Newcastle and will return to BELMONT 16FT SAILING CLUB in the LAKEVIEW LOUNGE on August 27.
The show starts at 11am and entry is free.
He will be supported by vocalist ANN MONTGOMERY .
