THE STEEL CITY COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB continues to bring the biggest names in Australian country music to Newcastle and support local talent.
Before the return of the annual STEEL CITY COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL , a variety of events will be held in the lead-up to the festival to help raise money for the Leukemia Foundation.
The first will be the Steel City Country Music Club's songwriting and music know- how workshop, designed to give amateur musicians professional assistance.
Tutors from the AUSTRALIAN COLLEGE OF COUNTRY MUSIC will host a number of workshops at CLUB MACQUARIE on Sunday covering areas such as songwriting, musicianship, performance and management.
The workshop costs $50 and will be held from 10am to 4pm and limited spaces are still available.
Organiser MEL SOMERS is also doing his part to help kick off the fundraiser for the Leukemia Foundation with a tour that he is dubbing the ``Song-a-thon''.
The tour will kick off at NARRABRI RSL CLUB on September 14 and Somers is looking for sponsors to help him raise money as he works his way through Tamworth before finishing up at Club Macquarie.
Somers's return will coincide with a huge charity concert organised by country music stars GINA JEFFREYS and ROD MCCORMACK .
The event will be held on October 5 and feature a performance from a mystery guest.
In the past, the event has attracted surprise visits from the likes of RICK PRICE, KASEY CHAMBERS, FELICITY and BECCY COLE .
