WALKING away from Brisbane band PRETTY VIOLET STAIN would obviously be a tough decision.
But for guitarist NATHAN LOCKWOOD, leaving the band proved a step in the right direction.
Less than a week after leaving the band, Lockwood found himself on stage testing out his own material in a series of solo shows.
'Basically as soon as I finished with Pretty Violet Stain I was thinking about something new because I had a lot of my own material,' Lockwood said.
The result was HALFDAY , a fresh four-piece (pictured) which serves up delightful melodic pop.
Enlisting the skills of former SPACEJUNK members RYAN ARGENT and OWEN JOLLY, the band recorded its debut EP DOWNSTAIRS KING. Halfday recently welcomed bassist MARIO ROBAZZA to the line-up, allowing Lockwood to move from bass back to his main love of guitar.
Halfday will launch its new EP with a show at SONGWRITER'S UNPLUGGED at HOTEL CBD tonight.
'It's nice to play acoustically and it suits our style anyway, so it's a nice little departure for us,' Lockwood said.
Halfday will also perform a lunchtime gig at NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY next Wednesday.
