IT'S the biggest annual gathering of young media makers, musicians, artists and writers in Australia and it is held here in Newcastle.
THIS IS NOT ART will officially kick off today and continue until Monday, with a mind-boggling number of events and activities.
Host to THE NATIONAL YOUNG WRITERS FESTIVAL, ELECTROFRINGE, THE NATIONAL STUDENT MEDIA CONFERENCE, SOUND SUMMIT and RADIO ACTIVE, this year's event looks set to be one of the biggest.
On a musical scale, Sound Summit and Electrofringe have an inspiring number of events planned over five days.
One of the biggest is HARD WARE HOUSE at HONEYSUCKLE WAREHOUSE on Saturday night, which will continue from 10pm and feature electronic artists from all over the world.
The party will feature seven international acts including Canada's MANITOBA, the UK's NEOTROPIC and locals such as Sydney's DIRTY SLUT and Newcastle's own AUXILARY and KATO. Other highlights include the HIP HOP MC BATTLE at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL on Friday night, featuring the NATIONAL STEALTH MC BATTLE NSW FINAL. Electrofringe will close with a huge celebration on Sunday at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL with the MUTANT ELECTRONICA CLOSING PARTY. Starting at 9pm, the show will feature three rooms of electronica from more than 30 national and international artists.
