TICKETS to the Kiev Ballet's production of Sleeping Beauty at the Civic Theatre are selling fast.

The production is now in its 200th year and the company will celebrate the milestone through a series of shows in Australia.

Civic Theatre will host three performances of the ballet on Friday and Saturday.

Sleeping Beauty is one of the all-time classics of ballet and in its history it has performed to over 40million people.

With graceful choreography and finely crafted music, the production has always been regarded as the greatest achievement of Russian ballet in the 19th century.

The Sleeping Beauty score was written by classical legend Tchaikovsky who was also the musician behind Swan Lake and Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky wrote the score in 1888 to 1889.

Starring in the current production are Leonid Sarafanov and Natali Domracheva.
