SINCE they released their latest album in November last year, The Gadflys are yet to tour nationally.
Now they are off and running with a run of gigs including the CBD Hotel's Thursday night Cool Room slot this week.
'We have had set back after set back with the management change and all that sort of thing,' Mick Moriarty said.
The Gadflys now manage themselves.
Moriarty said the band is about to release a single with multi-media components, a first for the band.
The album, Many Happy Returns was described by Rolling Stone as 'their fifth and best album ... which gets the inner-city grit/muso substance equation just right'.
Many Happy Returns was devoted to bassist and pianist Andy Lewis, who died before work on the album was completed.
The Gadflys found prominence on the national scene after producers of the now-defunct Good News Week liked what they saw on a pilot of the show, asking them to perform regularly.
Originally from Canberra, they revolve around the Moriarty brothers, Phil and Mick.
Their signature folk-pop sound of acoustic guitar, clarinet and double bass is supplemented by organ, strings and horns.
