CLOWNING around may be his first profession but entertainer CHRIS KELLY employs plenty of humour in his second trade as a noteworthy musician.
In their debut performance, at Stockton Bowling Club from 8pm this Saturday night, CHRIS KELLY & FRIENDS will combine South American music and rockabilly.
Kelly jokes that the gig is the first stop of a planned 'east and west coast tour of Stockton' that will later take in the Boatrowers, the Gladstone and the Washtub hotels.
'We're gearing ourselves up to take on such far-flung places as Fern Bay and Salt Ash,' Kelly quipped, referring to neighbouring suburbs.
Jokes aside, the band is a formidable one, boasting HUGH GORDON on guitar, and Kelly on mandolin, guitar, violin and harmonica.
Drummer BRETT VAN KREIDT and FERNANDO TORRES from Latin and Salsa band PABLO DIABLO have also been recruited.
'Fernando is Stockton's answer to RICKY MARTIN,' Kelly said.
'He'll be wearing very tight leather pants and a fluorescent shirt tied at the waist into a knot!'
The group plans to meld the Latin music of 'love and sex' with the rebellious rock'n'roll of 'JOHNNY BURNETTE, GENE VINCENT and CHUCK BERRY'. Chris Kelly is best known to Hunter sporting fans as FAT ELVIS at Falcons home games and SIR RUSTY at Knights home games. TE
