SINCE the release of 1995 film BRASSED OFF! the profile of the GRIMETHORPE COLLIERY BAND has skyrocketed.
In Australia alone the motion picture soundtrack has sold 30,000 copies, and the band has been in demand around the world.
But the 84-year-old group is no stranger to fame in brass band circles at least.
Since 1962 Grimethorpe has competed in 210 contests throughout the world and has been in the top three placing 155 times.
Their latest CD release CLASSIC BRASS features arrangements of classical music, and features a guest appearance from soprano LESLEY GARRETT. The group will again perform at the Newcastle Civic Theatre on Friday, January 26. TE has two double passes to give away.
