THE numbers have finally added up for two Hunter bands, Limen 10 and Minus .09 , who took out first and second place respectively in the Lake Macquarie Battle of the Bands competition.
Run over two weeks, the inaugural competition attracted about 13 bands from Lake Macquarie and Newcastle, along with hundreds of music fans, to the Lake foreshore.
The competition was judged by Andrew McDonald from the J Factory, Gary Clarke from the Hunter Music Corporation and Marcus Wright from Big Apache.
All-out winners Limen 10 walked away with $300 cash, a $400 CD demo recording and a national touring support at either Newcastle University or a Newcastle venue.
Elissa Elvidge, Guru, Nicky Jones and Mark Wood are aged between 18 and 33 years.
They describe their music as melodic pop rock, and said it was about time they scored the number one spot.
'We've been in a lot of band comps, including at the university, and we've come second a lot,' Guru said.
'It was really good to hear first.
'Things like this are definitely encouraging for bands and it's great when there's something out there to play for.'
The Newcastle group are 'not about to give up' on making a career from their music and already have an EP on the market.
Catch Limen 10 at the Bank Hotel, Maitland, on Saturday, February 10.
