Performer Back into the Groove

Who: Damien Watson
Where: Gallipoli Legion Club
When: Wednesday February 28, 2001

ONE of the founding members of the Lounge Revue at the Gallipoli Club, guitarist-vocalist Damien Watson is returning to his old haunt tonight to perform some innovative creations.

Together with his band, The Non-Slip Grooves, Watson will perform a funk-fusion show based on some modern hits and originals.

Watson resurfaced in November last year at the Lass O'Gowrie Hotel after completing a degree at the Australian Institute of Music.

The 26-year-old has now been invited to complete a masters degree, part of which will include an independent solo release.

Working with industry heavies, especially in the jazz world such as George Golla Watson says he is in no hurry to make the album.

'At the moment I'm concentrating on absorbing every piece of advice and inspiration that is passed onto me,' he said.

He is also playing regular gigs at the prestigious Harbourside Brasserie in Sydney and some shows at the Brass Monkey with a 10-person gospel choir.

Watson, who cut his teeth with Newcastle rock groups Altered State and Flat Earth Society, has kept a low performance profile during his studies.

At the Gallipoli Club he will also be joined by vocalist Claudia Bouzas.
