MAITLAND four-piece Magic Carpet love pop songs from the 1960s - and for the past five years have loved playing them even more.
With a huge repertoire of about 80 tracks, this casual ensemble with more than 80 years of experience between them have been playing monthly to appreciative crowds at the Valley Brewery and private parties.
Covering great 60s bands such as The Beatles and The Monkeys, Magic Carpet don't overlook one-hit wonders when writing their set list.
'We don't play a song for any other reason than it being a great song,' bass player Pete Edmonds said.
The band members have combined from two well-known acts.
Edmonds and lead guitarist Steve Dunkley hail from Men Without Shame and Brad Duncan and Dave Robson from The Long Knives. Although Edmonds admits that the band is not out to conquer the world, the members have a great time while they're on stage.
'We are a bunch of blokes who probably should have stopped doing this by now, but we just keep going,' Edmonds said.
