Mathiske back from Homage to Chet Atkins

Who: Bruce Mathiske
Where: Christ Church Cathedral
When: Saturday August 11, 2001

After a huge week in Nashville last month, local guitarist Bruce Mathiske has returned home from a tribute to guitar legend Chet Atkins. Atkins died last month and Bruce was invited to attend the Chet Atkins Tribute Memorial at Music City, Nashville.

The invite was a great honour for Mathiske who cites Atkins as a major influence in his playing.

'I first heard Chet Atkins play when I was 21,' Bruce says.

'From that day and for the following six years I practised 10 hours a day.'

Novocastrians will have the chance to welcome Bruce home when he returns for one performance.

Absolutely Acoustic is the name of Saturday night's gig at the Christ Church Cathedral where Bruce will showcase locally-made guitars.

Jim Williams designed and hand crafted Bruce's current guitar.

Tickets for Saturday's show are available at the door for $18 adults, $15 concession or by calling 4947 7433.

TE has three double passes to giveaway to the show.
