Sinceit kicked off a residency at the Mercury Hotel in March, Rype has become a popular Thursday night ritual for fans of breaks music.
Featuring local resident DJs Auxilary (Dan Matthews) and Kato (Michael Hodgeson) the pair provide funky sounds free of charge from 9pm to 3am.
'We play funky breaks, hip hop and a bit of house and two step,' Dan said.
'But it is essentially a breaks oriented night.'
This week Rype will welcome a special guest DJ to the decks.
DJ Frenzie is one of Sydney's top DJs and is on The Nite Train Tour with popular producer and DJ Fatt Dex. His work includes stints in Sydney clubs such as Globe, Chinese Laundry and appearances at Vibes On A Summer's Day.
Frenzie will also appear at the next Nutshell Breaks party, but if you want to catch him early get along to Rype tomorrow night in the Mercury Lounge.
'The Mercury Hotel lounge bar provides the freshest and broadest format of music compared to any other nightclub in Newcastle,' Dan said.
