Band Steps Out With New Name

Who: Charlie's Web
Where: Kent Hotel
When: Friday November 24, 2000

FOR a band with such a strong emphasis on female vocals, lead singer SHARLENE STRONG felt that the band name GROUND ZERO sounded a 'bit too blokey'.

After changing the name to CHARLIE'S WEB, a play on Sharlene's nickname, the band is now better positioned to attract fans into its web of intrigue.

Charlie's Web can be seen this Friday night at the Kent Hotel and Saturday night at Lemon Tree Passage Bowling Club.

Members of the band include former SLOTS members JEFFREY MACLEAY on drums and vocals, and MARK RIPPON on bass. Guitarist RICHARD KNAUSS also sings backing vocals.

Strong sings all the female vocals on songs by THE CRANBERRIES, SKUNK ANANSIE, WHEATUS, KILLING HEIDI and GARBAGE. But Charlie's Web has its fair share of hard rock, with Macleay singing male vocals on songs by LED ZEPPELIN, COLD CHISEL, BLINK 182 and AC/DC. The band will perform again at the Hotel Delany on Friday, December 8 and Friday, December 15 at The Queens Wharf Brewery.
