Yobbo strikes a chord

IT would be fair to say Australia has its fair share of yobbos.

But rarely does one come along, dressed to the nines in flanno, double-plugger thongs and mullet hairdo, and steal the show from the glitz and glamour of our music industry.

Comedian Chris Franklin became an exception to the norm with the release earlier this year of his first single, Bloke.

That saw him rise to number one on the charts, pushing big-name bands out of contention on his way to sales in excess of 120,000.

His comedic talents were discovered back in 1997, and the self-confessed 'bogan' has since raked in a stack of awards, including the accolade for Triple J's Raw Comedy's Best New Comedian.

The outback drawl, which is synonymous with his stand-up routine, conveys a dry wit, full of irony and grass-roots humour that would appeal to any red-blooded Aussie.

Plans for a full album are expected to come to fruition by the end of the year.

Franklin is in the process of shooting Mr Average, a feature film in which he plays the lead role.

Franklin will play at The Valley Brewery on December 3.
