A $9million production of the VERDI opera AIDA will be staged at Wyndham Estate on Saturday, February 24, 2001. World renowned conductor GIUSEPPE RAFFA will lead the OPERAMA production which he conceived in 1988.

PARK BRASS: MORE than 200 musicians from some of the State's finest brass bands will perform for free at BRASS IN THE PARK on Sunday. Seven Hunter-based groups will perform music from stage and screen, in a six hour program starting at 11am.

RADIO GALA: A DUET from two elderly pianists with 160 years of combined experience will form the centrepiece of a GALA CONCERT on Sunday afternoon at the Conservatorium Concert Hall. MILICENT SKETCHLEY and EVELYN HOWE, both aged close to 90, will perform piano duets at the concert presented by 2NUR-FM. The concert begins at 2pm. MOVIE TALK: SEMINARS on film making will delivered at the PERFORMING ARTS NEWCASTLE building on Saturday and Sunday as part of the NEWCASTLE FILM FESTIVAL. On Saturday from 2pm until 4pm, panellists including Hunter film makers will talk about objectives and approaches for making films. On Sunday, from 2pm, GEORGE MANNIX from CENTRESCREEN ENTERTAINMENT will host a screenwriting seminar with additional guest writers.
