Country Rocker Hits City

Who: Jade Hurley
Where: Mayfield Ex Services Club
When: Friday March 24, 2000

LABELLED Australia's King of Country Rock JADE HURLEY is about to show Newcastle audiences how he got his name.

HURLEY will perform several gigs across Newcastle and the Hunter including the Knights Leagues Club this Friday and Mayfield Ex-Services on Sunday.

Hurley's trip to the top began when he was noticed by Australian rock legend JOHNNY O'KEEFE singing in a talent quest in the beer garden of a Sydney hotel when he was 14.

O'KEEFE shot the young HURLEY into instant stardom when he appeared on the program Six O' Clock Rock. From there HURLEY secured his own regular segment on the Mike Walsh Show, and the rest is history.

But even after decades of touring HURLEY still manages to perform to packed venues, and to audiences of all ages.

His flamboyant costumes combined with his ability to mix classic rock'n'roll with country music has meant his appeal with audiences has never died.

JADE HURLEY has also been recognised for nurturing rising musicians and entertainers, and for his support of charities.
