What a Tangled Musical Web Variety at Wickham Pub

What: Saturday Evening at the Wickham Park Hotel
Where: Wickham Park Hotel
When: Saturday July 8, 2000

OH what a tangled web we weave when we join the Newcastle music scene.

You only have to look closely at the line-up for the Wickham Park Hotel this Saturday to realise just how tangled it is.

From 9pm, the night will consist of PEACH BEAT , FAVOURS FOR EACH OTHER and CABIN FEVER then THE AUSTRALIAN BEEF WEEK SHOW .

Individually, the bands appear reasonably separate.

FAVOURS guitarist Anthony Dean said the outfit termed its music 'lounge core'.

'We play sort of poppy" and loungy" music, but with a harder edge and a driven guitar,' Dean said.

CABIN FEVER tends more towards 'straight ahead' rock, with more dynamics which should wow the Wickham on Saturday.

AUSTRALIAN BEEF WEEK has tinges of country rock.

The four groups have much more in common than just the Wickham Park gig.

BEEF WEEK vocalist and bass player Chris Wash used to play with Dean in a band called THE HOAX .

PEACH BEAT'S Jurek Kefecek recorded the FAVOURS CD.

BEEF WEEK'S Simon Miller now also plays in CABIN FEVER and will play both gigs on the night.

And that's just the start of it.

Dean said this kind of borrowing and lending of musical talent between bands was part and parcel of the Newcastle scene.

'I think a lot of the people who play in bands have fairly broad musical tastes and they aren't scared to get in and have a go at different things,' Dean said.

'This especially happens once people get a bit older and the barriers between the different genres break down.
