JOHN Baillie is not sure whether Newcastle is ready for another good dose of the blues.
But ready or not, here Baillie comes, eager to bring his blues experience back to Newcastle and woo its heart again.
Baillie last called Newcastle home in the 1980s, when he played with five-piece outfit The Witch Doctors.
When the group split at the start of the 1990s, Baillie branched into Sydney gigs, including the Annandale Empire and Harbour View at The Rocks, gigs on the Central Coast and various blues festivals.
Baillie said the blues/swing and roots rock'n'roll sounds of his band The Midnight Howlers had broad appeal.
'It is good for the old dances because we have the big double bass, the swing grooves,' he said.
The Midnight Howlers are playing at the Nags Head Hotel on Saturday, July 8 from 9pm and the Northern Star Hotel on Sunday, July 9 from 8pm.
