INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed German-born virtuoso KARIN SCHAUPP will perform at the AUSTRALIAN GUITAR FESTIVAL on Saturday night.
Schaupp, and Australian classical guitar soloist ANTHONY FIELD who will play on Friday night, will perform at the Newcastle Conservatorium concert hall, both nights from 6pm.
Field and Schaupp have been engaged by organisers of the AUSTRALIAN GUITAR COMPETITION which will culminate with a recital by prize winners at the venue on Sunday night.
Artistic director GARETH KOCH said the competition would bring together 'the newest generation of ambitious young classical guitarists' from all over Australia.
'Prizes to the value of $10,000 include valuable instruments, handmade guitars, concerts, CD recording opportunities and cash money awards,' he said.
Sunday night's concert by the three finalists will be recorded for broadcast by ABC CLASSIC FM. Guitarists visiting for the festival are expected to attend workshops in everything from guitar construction and history to composition and performance. TE
