Who: Amy Vee
Where: Kent Hotel
When: Thursday December 28, 2000

Singing is in the blood for Newcastle club and pub circuit regulars MIKE VEE and his daughter AMY VEE. Mike Vee's father TRICKY DELANO was well known on the rock'n'roll circuit in the 1950s, and once performed live on television for the JOHNNY O'KEEFE SHOW. 'Dad thought it was good for me to have performing experience, so I joined my first band when I was 14, playing keyboards and not doing much singing,' Amy said.

'Pretty soon I fell in love with it and haven't looked back.'

The trio, which includes PETER MCVIE, will perform tonight at the Kent Hotel, tomorrow night at the Beaumont Exchange Hotel, and The Brewery on New Year's Eve afternoon.

AMY & THE VEES perform a variety of Top 40 and classic rock songs, but the father and daughter also tread the boards in theatrical productions.

Mike played the role of Jean Valjean in the 1995 TAMWORTH MUSICAL SOCIETY production of LES MISERABLES. Amy understudied the role of Eponine in the same production.

This year Amy, 21, won the same role in the CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE production of Les Miserables, an experience which resulted in her biggest audiences.

Although she says she 'loves modern musicals', Amy is content with her 'solid' work commitments fronting show band FRUITCAKE and backing her father in THE WHISPERING JACK SHOW. 'Musical theatre is not really my thing,' she said.

'It was just that the part really suited my voice.'
