THE Hunter On Hunter is as good a live venue as any, especially when you fill it with cool people and great bands.
And so it was on Saturday, August 19 when HBLOCK 101, MACH PELICAN and CASE FOR JEFFERSON rocked out.
Local progressive hard-core merchants CASE FOR JEFFERSON had the place jumping from the start with their electric riff-a-rama and groove-laden tunes keeping the expanding crowd feeling exuberant.
As THE RAMONES-style Mach Pelican hit the stage, the place was filling rapidly with happy punters keen for a bit of good time punk'n'roll from the diminutive Japanese expatriates.
And they didn't disappoint with their American-influenced originals, interspersed with a few choice covers such as GIGANTOR and I WANT TO BE SEDATED. The headline act was very classy with its sing-along, old-style English punk reminding this reviewer of excellent bands such as STIFF LITTLE FINGERS and SHAM 69. The crowd was loving every minute of the show and the lads from HBLOCK bristled with confidenced and enthusiasm, running through some older numbers as well as the TRIPLE J faves such as COCA KOLONISATION and WORKERS WAGE, as well as a cookin' version of SPLIT ENZ'S I SEE RED. The slam dancers were having a fine old time and didn't even faze a couple down the front having a major pash!
A great night was had by all and it was good to see a fine turnout for some great bands.
