Best of Salsa Sounds

Who: Rhumba-Llama
Where: The View Factory
When: Saturday August 26, 2000

A LITTLE piece of Latin America is coming to the View Factory Cafe on Saturday, August 26 from 7.30pm.

RHUMBA-LLAMA is David Stewart on bass, Michael Morello on percussion and guitarist/singer Eduardo Rodriguez, with special guests Elle Bartholmew on vocals and Willie Romero on vocals and percussion.

After quite a few years doing solo work in restaurants, Rodriguez has decided to form a group for the first time.

When it comes to Latin American music, few have more reliable qualifications for producing the authentic sounds with undiluted passion. Rodriguez is from Uruguay, a small country in Latin America, and grew up in the Sydney and Newcastle music scenes.

'In the band we try to gear our music more to the instrumental and traditional, samba, meringue and cha cha,' he said. 'I also have four of my own original pieces.'

He said the group stumbled on the View Factory gig accidentally.

'Basically we were just having coffee there with some friends and I just started talking to the owner,' Rodriguez said. 'It is a big place with beautiful acoustics.'
