SIREN of the 60s DIONNE WARWICK will be performing at the Newcastle Civic Theatre this Saturday night.
Born in New Jersey DIONNE WARWICK first sang with her sister DEE DEE and aunt CISSY HOUSTON, mother of WHITNEY HOUSTON, in THE GOSPELAIRES before moving on to become a backing singer.
Warwick first met songwriters BURT BACHARACH and HAL DAVID while she was working on other artist's records, but it was the start of one of music's legendary partnerships.
In 1962 she became a star in her own right performing hits of the star-making songwriting duo such as DON'T MAKE ME OVER, ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART and WALK ON BY, relying on songs by David and Bacharach until the end of the 1960s.
She also went on to record their songs DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO SAN JOSE, THIS GIRL'S IN LOVE WITH YOU, MESSAGE TO MICHAEL, YOU'LL NEVER GET TO HEAVEN IF YOU BREAK MY HEART, PROMISES PROMISES and REACH OUT FOR ME. Her collaborative approached paid off in the 1980s when she performed the enormously successful HEARTBREAKER with THE BEE GEES. Warwick became the first female artist to win both Best Female Pop and Best Female R&B performance awards at the Grammys. To date Warwick has 55 hit singles and 40 albums.
