CELTIC rock band MUNSTER CLOAK is recording a CD of Scottish and Irish traditional music with a contemporary feel at KEYTONE STUDIOS with TONY HEADS, for release at a gig sometime before Christmas.
'There's thousands of songs so we'll probably just grab those and put them together in our own sort of format,' mandolin player ROB BAXTER said.
The band is playing this Saturday, November 27 at the Colliery Inn at Wallsend, and next Thursday, December 2, at the Kent Hotel, the band's last Kent Hotel gig until March.
Playing together since mid-1997 the group performs covers by THE POGUES, WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING, Canadian fiddle player ASHLEY MCISAAC and Scottish Celtic rock band WOLFSTONE. Baxter also plays tin whistle and guitar, with NIKKI GARRETTS on fiddle and recorder, TIM HILL on bass and bodhran, MICK HALL on acoustic and electric guitars and JASON BULL on drums and harmonica.
'Nikki just started in June,' Baxter said.
'Our other fiddle player (PHIL YOUNG) has gone to Ireland and the United Kingdom to brush up on his musical skills.
'He will return however which means we'll probably have two fiddle players.'
Drummer Jason Bull will leave next month to travel overseas until the end of January. In the meantime the rest of the band will perform during December and January in acoustic trio mode. TE
