WE'RE told his last band GUMPTION supported COLD CHISEL around Australia on its comeback tour, including the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
But this Friday night Sydney keyboard player and singer songwriter PAUL CAREY will front his new band THE SHOES at the Acoustic Cafe at The Star Hotel, where he's been making himself a fixture.
Publican MARK HENDERSON says Carey has become the latest anchor of the weekly PUBLICAN'S JAM NIGHT, and when TE walked into the hotel a fortnight ago we could see what he meant. Carey and others were lifting the roof off the joint during the 10-minute jam we saw, which included Hendo on guitar, THREAD drummer MICK WILLIAMS and sax player DAN FLANAGAN. There is a revolving bass chair on the jam night which often sees SCREAMING JETS member PAUL WOSEEN sitting in. For trainspotters, Woseen comprised half of THE EMBERS with Williams.
Some nights DAVE CARTER and PAUL ELLIOT have been known to front up, creating a tag-team of bass players and guitarists.
Hendo is delighted with the Thursday jam nights, which are open to the public.
The night begins with acoustic duo KATE & AMANDA, followed by Woseen's other band DR POPPY (when he's in town).
