HUNTER entertainer CAROL DONOVAN is the latest country singer/songwriter out of CHANT STUDIOS Kurri Kurri to wind up as a Top 20 finalist in the TOYOTA COUNTRY STARMAKER 2000.

Newcastle-based Donovan, playing on Friday, December 10, at Adamstown RSL Club, has been selected out of more than 300 entrants on the basis of her debut ALONG THE PATHWAY. The prestigious competition is held every year as part of the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Past winners include GINA JEFFREYS, LEE KERNAGHAN and KEITH URBAN.

In 1998, Hunter artist KATE BALLANTYNE won Starmaker with her song TOO HOT TO HANDLE which was also recorded at Kurri with her father, producer BILL AITKEN. Aitken said Mildura country performer JUNE HARRISON, who also made the Starmaker top 20, had recorded her winning entry at Chant Studios.

The top 20 performers will perform two songs at Tamworth City Hall on January 23 between 11am and 3pm. Ten will be selected to perform three songs in the evening final. One of the 10 will be chosen as the Toyota Starmaker winner.

'They say it's the biggest country music talent quest in Australasia,' Aitken said.

Every Starmaker winner gets a car, TV appearances, appearances at major country music festivals such as the Gympie Muster, and a two-song single recorded in Sydney. TE
