ONE of the treats of this year's DOGBITE '99 festival at the Maitland Showground was IOTA performing solo in the acoustic tent behind the grandstand.
Performing songs such as the TRIPLE J favourite SCHITZO a small but energetic crowd of 50 or so found itself swaying involuntarily, like seaweed on a rock shelf below the ocean breakers.
That's what happens when you're watching this bloke, with his four-octave voice, his acoustic guitar and an innate sense of rhythm.
Iota's music defies you to stand still - even on the tracks with little more than his wavering falsetto and a few chords.
Tomorrow afternoon at the University of Newcastle, Iota will launch his debut album THE HIP BONE CONNECTION. Featuring an eclectic array of sounds from world music rhythms to funk and groove, the CD features a full band and Iota's golden voice which is reminiscent of JEFF BUCKLEY or BEN HARPER.
