When: Friday April 30, 1999

IN the 1970s singer ALAN ROBERTS, better known as the voice of JOE COCKER in the COCKER MAGIC SHOW, arrived in Maitland to continue his soccer career and his music career.

Playing on Friday night at the Knights Leagues Club, Roberts will be joined on stage by his 'big brother' DAVID ROBERTS, on Friday night at Maitland City Bowling Club.

David, 57 still plays first division soccer in the Northern NSW competition.

A former first division player for Maitland and South Sydney Croatia, Alan played in the English Premier Soccer League before emigrating to Australia.

Playing half a season for Sheffield Wednesday, Alan also played seasons with Wolverhamptom Wanderers and Rotherham United.

While still a teenager he recalls playing Sunday League comp with JOE COCKER himself, who 'lived a couple of streets away'.

'His mum and my mum used to know each other a bit - bingo and all that,' Alan said.

Roberts will also perform next Wednesday, May 5, at the Kent Hotel in Hamilton, with LIMITED EDITION which performs contemporary covers.
