ONE of Newcastle's most fascinating performers, actor, singer and former model FRANCINE BELL, will perform at a fundraiser on Saturday night for thewomen's fellowship of ST PAUL'S UNITING CHURCH. The concert, from 8pm at the Joslin St, Kotara South, church, will raise funds for Hunter Oncology.
The THRILLING EVENING OF MUSIC will also feature a classical and jazz piano/vocal duet, ERROL COLLINS and ROSEMARY ALLEN. Other performers include baritone GRAEME HANDS and accompanist PATRICIA WILLIAMS, and the SAX BLUE saxophone quartet under the direction of ROD BARNES. New York-born Bell was once the toast of Paris but now calls Wangi Wangi home after settling there in the mid-1980s.
The jazz singer and former model found religion and the Seventh Day Adventist church 10 years ago. This contributed to her decision to scale back her professional performances.
The 43-year-old teaches at the Newcastle Conservatorium and is a consultant for a talent development program.
Bell, a mother of two, is about to release a gospel CD, and has written a book guiding other performers on how to survive in the game with their faith intact.TE
