Hypnotist Has Mesmerised 1.5mill People on Stage, TV Martin Spells Out His Magic

Who: Martin St James
Where: Cessnock Supporters Club
Author: Debra Killalea
When: Thursday May 31, 2001

MARTIN St James has spent the past 50 years putting people to sleep.

And he wants to spend the next 50 years waking them up.

After his spellbinding tour of Japan, Taiwan and Korea, Martin St James kicked off his Australian tour in Sydney last month.

He is about to head to the Hunter Region to share his hilarious antics with anyone game to watch.

During his 50 mesmerising years in showbusiness, St James estimates that he has hypnotised more than 1.5million people on stage and television.

His television appearances have been described as nothing less than dynamic, hilarious and sensational.

St James estimates that he has performed to 850million people throughout the world over the course of his career.

It was only natural that the Western Australian-born performer would have a career in the spotlight after becoming a professional hypnotist at the tender age of 18.

Since then, St James has been known to make the most serious-natured people cavort on stage as goldfish, typewriters and even Michael Jackson.

For him, making others laugh is all part and parcel of his live stage show.

But it's also something he finds rewarding.

'I'm thrilled and privileged to be able to bring joy and laughter to so many people throughout the world,' St James said.

The comic performer will start his Hunter tour at the Cessnock Rugby League Supporters Club on May 31.

He will also perform at Maitland City Bowling Club on June 1.

He is set to magically appear at the Belmont 16ft Sailing Club on June 2.

Southern Lake Macquarie residents can check out St James' act at the Doyalson RSL on June 3.
