Newly Formed Club To Debut On The Hill

Who: Heartbreak Club, Sekiden, Spod, I Heart Hiroshima
Where: University - Bar on the Hill
When: Thursday March 23, 2006

NEWLY formed band Heartbreak Club will make its live debut in Newcastle on Thursday next week when it supports electro pop outfit Sekiden at the Bar On the Hill. Heartbreak Club was formed late last year by Teddy Hernandez (vocals), Sullo (guitar), Gav (bass) and Carter (drums) who locked themselves in the studio to record a quick EP titled ...lamecore , released last month.

``We have three levels of songwriting,''singer Hernandez said.

``The first is the songs must grab you, a hook, a riff, whatever.

``Secondly, there must be some level of humour. We're not talking piss your pants funny, just a quick stab at people or our emotions and how contrived they can be.

``Thirdly, even though we can laugh off our girl problems as such, there is an undercurrent of sincerity.'' There are a few familiar faces in the band from other Newcastle-based groups who have previously played alongside acts such as Reel Big Fish and The Royal Crown .

Also playing at the Bar On the Hill on March 23 are Spod and I Heart Hiroshima. Heartbreak Club will perform from 8pm. The cost is $10 at the door or $8 for students.
