BRENDAN Murphy is a well-known face on the Newcastle music scene.

He has been performing professionally for almost 10 years with trio The Schemers, duo The Dreamcatchers and as a soloist.

He will perform a solo show at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club on Friday night.

Murphy taught himself to play guitar at the age of 16 and went on to study singing at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music with acclaimed teacher Francine Bell .

Very much a character singer, Murphy manipulates his voice to suit the song and his versatility as a guitarist shines, whether it's a classic acoustic sound or a rocking electric track.

His repertoire covers artists such as Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Mental As Anything, Oasis, Queen, Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles. In recent years he has written, recorded and released an original album titled Good Times.
