Who: Rob Thomas
Where: Newcastle Entertainment Centre
When: Friday February 17, 2006

ROB Thomas is set to embark on his first solo tour of Australia next year.

The Matchbox Twenty frontman, who has enjoyed huge success with his album Something To Be, will perform seven shows across the country in February.

Thomas will appear at Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Friday, February 17, as part of his Something To Be Tour. The singer took a break from his commitments with Matchbox Twenty last year to record the album which topped the Australian album charts upon its release.

Thomas also set a record by becoming the only male artist from a rock or pop group to debut at number one in the US charts with their first solo album.

Australian album sales have now exceeded double platinum, fuelled by the hit singles Lonely No More and This Is How a Heart Breaks. His third single, Ever The Same, was released this month.

``One thing I've been really excited about since we started is taking this thing from the record to the stage,'' Thomas said.

``This has always sounded like a record that was going to be really great live.'' Thomas's reputation has continued to grow not only through his work in Matchbox Twenty but also through collaborations with artists such as Mick Jagger, Willie Nelson and, most notably, Carlos Santana, with whom Thomas wrote and sang the Grammy- winning song Smooth. He has twice been named Songwriter of the Year by Billboard and was honoured with the first Songwriters Hall of Fame's Starlight Award. Tickets go on sale on Friday through Ticketek on 4921 2121.
