BLUES outfit the Bondi Cigars has remained one of Australia's hardest working bands since forming in 1989.

This year is no different, with a bumper series of tours and releases scheduled, including the long-awaited and much requested Best Of double album.

It will also feature two previously unreleased tracks and be followed by a national tour.

In the meantime the Bondi Cigars continue to work their way around the country and will perform in Newcastle at Sydney Junction Hotel on Friday night.

Shane Pacey (vocals, guitar), Eben Hale (vocals, guitar) and Alan Britton (bass) will also be introducing their new drummer Joel Sutton, formerly of the Mal Eastick band, as Frank Corby departs to spend more time with his family.

In the 16 years the band has been performing it was won numerous awards, including an ARIA for best blues and roots, and released seven albums.

The last album, 12 Lies, was hailed as their most diverse yet, with the band branching out a little more, some tracks featuring an alt-country feel, and others more pop rock than R&B.
