Who: Brendan Murphy
Where: Newcastle Panthers
When: Friday May 20, 2005

FOR the past eight years Brendan Murphy has been a mainstay on Newcastle's music scene.

Whether it has been in the trio The Schemers, the duo The Dreamcatchers or as a soloist, Murphy could always be found performing before a crowd somewhere.

On Friday, May 20, the singer-songwriter will perform at Newcastle Panthers. Since the launch of his album Good Times, Murphy has been enjoying the satisfaction of playing original material at venues around Newcastle.

A career as a working musician is something Murphy has been striving toward since he was 16 and taught himself to play guitar.

He quickly developed his own sound and went on to study singing at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music under the guidance of acclaimed teacher Francine Bell. Very much the character singer, Murphy manipulates his voice to suit the song.

His versatility as a guitarist shines whether it is his sensitive acoustic style or his powerful electric interpretations.

Murphy has proved to have something for everyone over the years, with his repertoire growing to accommodate tunes by everyone from Ben Harper and Cat Stevens to Bon Jovi and Crowded House.
