HUNTER kids are encouraged to get active when popular children's television program Active Kidz comes to Newcastle in July with their new show Let's Party! Active Kidz is an educational and fitness program for kids, providing healthy and positive role models who educate children about the importance of healthy lifestyles and fitness.

The show will appear at Newcastle Panthers on Friday, July 8.

Since the launch of the program last year, Active Kidz stars Scott Ehler and Amy Wilkins have motivated children all over Australia, Asia and New Zealand to exercise and eat well.

The success of the show has been put down to the upbeat music featured, which Ehler and Wilkins have labelled with the term ``aero-pop''.

``The best thing about Active Kidz is the response you get from the children. Instead of exercise being a chore, it becomes a lot of fun, and something they can't wait to do again,'' Wilkins said.

Both qualified fitness instructors, Ehler and Wilkins ensure each show contains a fitness formula hidden in upbeat activities that are easily reproduced for children.

Wilkins was studying a degree in human movement studies when she came up with the idea for Active Kidz .

She designed, developed and implemented the program, which aimed to educate kids about the importance of fitness and a healthy lifestyle in an appealing way.

While teaching children at a leisure centre, Wilkins teamed with Ehler and Active Kidz was born.

Response to the show has been overwhelming, with the show picking up the 2004 APRA Award for best children's TV music.

``I got involved with fitness because I was an obese child and when I started to exercise and lose weight I realised just how good it made me feel,'' Elher said.
