THERE is no shortage of musical talent in Australia.

A seemingly endless stream of young acts are on the rise and four of the best will team for a national tour titled The Night Is Young. Led by the Kiwi-cultivated, now Sydney- based band Evermore, The Night is Young Tour will run through June and July.

It will appear at Newcastle Panthers on Friday, July 15.

Evermore will be joined on stage by theredsunband, The Vasco Era and The Panda Band. It has been a whirlwind few months for brothers Jon, Peter and Dann Hume. Their debut album Dreams is verging on platinum sales in Australia and has been sitting in the top 20 for five weeks.

Evermore took out the Supernova Breakthrough Act category at the inaugural Australian MTV Music Video Awards. Likewise, Sydney-based trio theredsunband has garnered plenty of interest.

Bound by their mutual love of The Velvet Underground, Cat Stevens and The Beatles, theredsunband combine to create an indie sound that relies heavily on melody.

The band found a kindred spirit in Magic Dirt member Dean Turner who produced the single Pavement, the EP Sleep Forever and their debut album Peapod. Another act which has gained plenty of attention is Victorian three-piece band The Vasco Era with its raw fusion of blues and rock.

They performed at Big Day Out, Falls Festival and the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival. And, joining the likes of previous winners Eskimo Joe, Jebediah, George and The Vines, The Vasco Era recently added winning the 2004 National Campus Band Competition to its list of achievements.

Another band scoring big raps is Perth outfit The Panda Band.

With a musical pedigree of electro, funk and rock, The Panda Band's college-rock/indie pop leanings have been brought to the fore by songwriting frontman Damian Crosbie. With a style that hints at David Bowie, The Flaming Lips and Grandaddy, The Panda Band sound is built on strong, memorable melodies and addictive rhythms.

The Panda Band was recently listed by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top 10 bands in 2005 and just returned from Texas where it played a series of showcase gigs at the SXSW Festival. The Night Is Young Tour will be preceded by the release of Evermore's Come To Nothing , the third single from Dreams. Tickets are on sale now and available at the venue or online at www.bigtix.com.au and in store at The Rock Shop, Beaumont Street Beat and Sound World.
