Tall Tales To A Bluegrass Track

Who: Paul Kelly, Sarah Storer
Where: Western Suburbs Leagues Club
When: Thursday July 14, 2005

THE prolific Paul Kelly returns to the stage next month in his latest incarnation Paul Kelly and the Stormwater Boys. Kicking off in Western Australia later this month, the tour comes on the back of his new album Foggy Highway. Kelly will unleash his new bluegrass sound at Wests Leagues Club on Thursday, July 14.

Foggy Highway is a continuation of Kelly's earlier foray into bluegrass on the album Smoke , which was released in 1999. Bluegrass is a style of music that remains close to Kelly's heart and his new album includes a mix of reworked Kelly classics, new songs and covers of bluegrass standards.

Kelly hand-picked some of Australia's finest musicians to work on the project and on this tour he will be joined by Ian Simpson (banjo), Trevor Warner (mandolin), Mick Albeck (violin), James Gillard (bass) and Rod McCormack, the guitar-playing co-producer.

``Play this record on a Saturday afternoon. Play it on Sunday morning. Play it at a barbecue or down by the river or any time you want,'' Kelly said.

``Please enjoy the tall tales within of giant stumbling blocks, tent-boxers, ghosts, angels of death, old men by the fire, lost souls, floating Jesuses and talking spirits.'' Supporting Kelly and the Stormwater Boys on tour will be Sarah Storer, who is expected to perform her hits Buffalo Bill, Rollercoaster and Man Trap. Tickets are on sale now and bookings can be made by calling 4935 1200.
