Who: Akmal Saleh
Where: Civic Playhouse
When: Thursday August 18, 2005

Akmal Saleh is set to unleash his style of irreverent and politically incorrect humour in his new one-man show Akmal Live! He will present three shows at Newcastle Playhouse Civic Theatre Newcastle from August 18 to 20.

Renowned for his quick wit and warm on-stage persona, Saleh is a seasoned comic, having toured nationally with Jimeoin, Ben Elton, the Umbilical Brothers and Steven Wright. Egyptian-born Saleh ensures no subject is off limits, touching on everything from Christ to September 11, delivering a hysterical look at modern- day life in Australia. Saleh made his first step into comedy in 1992 when he wrote and starred in All Aussies are Boofta, a show which enjoyed a successful run across Sydney. Saleh found popular success with Hoot in 1996 when he appeared at the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne Comedy festivals. Those performances led to an invitation to appear at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Last year he toured with a new show, Gullible, which premiered at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and sold out every performance.

Tickets to Akmal Live! are on sale now on 4929 1977.
