Making Headway With Her Passion For Music

Who: Bertie Blackman
Where: Gateway Hotel
When: Saturday July 9, 2005

PROLIFIC singer-songwriter Bertie Blackman will make a stopover in Newcastle this weekend.

Touring on the back of her new EP You Kill Me, Blackman will perform at the Gateway Hotel on Saturday night.

Born into an eccentric artistic family, Blackman's early foray into the artistic world was visual, but she soon discovered a passion for music.

As a young independent artist, Blackman has already tried her hand at a bit of everything.

She has collaborated with the likes of Ben Lee and Alex Lloyd and written music for a couple of Australian films.

Blackman released her debut album Headway early last year, introducing listeners to her style of powerful pop.

Her track Favourite Jeans propelled her into the spotlight when it entered the independent AIR single charts and remained there for an impressive 29 weeks.

More recently Blackman has featured on Triple J's Like a Version compilation with her re-working of Erykah Badu's track Tyrone. Her latest release, You Kill Me , was inspired by the energy of her shows and includes live versions of songs from Headway. It also showcases her shift from playing electric guitar to acoustic.

Tickets to Blackman's upcoming show are on sale at the Gateway Hotel.
