THE NEWCASTLE LIVE SITES program returns to the city today. ntsI jan26 Kicking off the activities for 2005 will be a free circus workshop with NSW touring troupe CIRCUS MONOXIDE. The workshop will be held at the marina precinct on the corner of Hannell Street and Honeysuckle Drive, Wickham, from 10am to 1pm.

The circus workshops will be followed by the return of LATINO NIGHTS in Wheeler Place in February.

Each Friday from 5pm to 9pm the precinct will be filled with hot dancing and Latin jazz, with renowned Sydney 10-piece SON VENENO , featuring MAYA JUPITER and steamy salsa lessons with Sydney school RUEDISIMA DANCE COMPANY. New signature events added to the program include the first NEWCASTLE STREET PERFORMERS FESTIVAL; GLOBAL, a month of concerts with live music from around the if world; and SNAP OFF THE LIP, Newcastle's first surf-film competition to screen during ENERGYAUSTRALIA SURFEST. More events are to be announced in due course.

In 2004, the inaugural Live Sites program saw up to 1000 people turn out in the city for events such as the WINTER HEAT light display and DANCING IN THE STREETS, which brought crowds and dancers to Wheeler Place. if Both of these events will return this year as a result of the positive public response they received in their first year.
