Who: Mick Edser, Jacob Cook, Lightning Blue
Where: Commonwealth Hotel
When: Thursday January 13, 2005

SHOWCASE: Mick Edser will play this week.

SOME of Newcastle's best emerging artists will take part in a series of showcase events to promote the new Acoustica of the Nation album.

Artists will play live at the COMMONWEALTH HOTEL every Thursday evening over the next three weeks.

The album is the result of a six-month search that began early last year to uncover the city's best up-and-coming talent to be featured on a CD.

More than 60 applicants performed in the contest and were judged by representatives from KOFM, MUSO'S CORNER and SCOPE STUDIOS. Judges then chose the best 10 entrants to feature on the Acoustica of the Nation album.

Organiser DEAN DEE of SPELLBOUND MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT said the album would be launched during three shows to accommodate all the acts. ``The reason we are releasing the CD over three weeks is to ensure all 10 winners get a fair shot at promoting their music,'' Dee said.

``It is impossible to showcase 10 artists on one evening.'' This week's show will feature performances by MICK EDSER, JACOB COOK and blues trio LIGHTNING BLUE. Lightning Blue's RICHARD MEREDITH said the band took part in the contest because it viewed it as a good opportunity to have its music heard.

``We wanted to get some exposure and because we play all originals, that can sometimes be difficult.'' Meredith said. Music starts at 7pm each week and entry is free.

The Acoustica of the Nation contest starts again on Thursday, February 3.

Anyone interested in taking part should Anyone interested should contact Dee on 0421 th281 th510.
