NEWCASTLE band STONEMASON is psyched up for a big night on Friday ntsI feb 4 when they will finally be able to hold their CD launch.

The band recorded 21st Century about 18 months ago but shortly after the recording was completed drummer GAVIN CARSTAIRS parted ways with DEAN HOLMES (guitar/vocals) and DAVE NORTH (bass/backing vocals).

But the remaining members of Stonemason eventually recruited new drummer ALLAN HOFER and are back on track.

Holmes said there was a lengthy gap between recording and launching the CD because of the time it took to find Hofer and teach him the band's songs.

The six-track 21st Century was recorded at the CORDIAL FACTORY in Newcastle by TONY HEADS. Stonemason describe their sound as heavy rock and said they have been influenced by TOOL, KYUSS and SOUNDGARDEN. ``We wanted to do an original thing,'' Holmes said.

``I've been trying to get original bands together for years.'' Before the CD launch on Friday at the LUCKY COUNTRY HOTEL , Stonemason will appear tonight at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL with COMA LIES and UNEMPLOI!ABLE. Friday's gig will kick off at 9pm. Entry is $5 and Stonemason CDs will be available for $6 each.

The band will be supported by EZEL, SYMBIOSIS and SOMEWHAT DAMAGED.
