Hard Rock Has Its Beauty

Who: Sarah McLeod
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
When: Friday August 19, 2005

FORMER Superjesus girl and now independent hard rocker Sarah McLeod will perform headline shows throughout this month to promote her new album.

Called Beauty Was A Tiger, the new album was showcased recently when she performed with Thirsty Merc.

More shows for the tour are set to be announced in September.

Due to be released on September 18, the new album features her current single Let's Get Together.

It will also feature the upcoming single Private School Kid, which has a guest performance by The Living End's Chris Cheney and is due for release on September 5.

Tipped as a leap forward for her as a musician, the new record is a collection of songs that sees McLeod at her most ``vulnerable'', vocally and lyrically.

``I've been trying to keep my vocals as raw as possible,'' McLeod said.

``With The Superjesus nf we doubled every vocal track, sometimes we tripled it.

``But this time I realised that if I could sing better and make one take sound really good then it would be a lot more engaging.'' McLeod turns up the heat on tracks like Let's Get Together, the Bangles- esque Never Enough and Gutter Queen.

Her husky voice slides from prissy goodness to deep sexiness.

She recorded the album in a guesthouse in Cessnock, with the experience shared with co-producer and friend Matt Lovell. The two became mates while living in the same neighbourhood on the Central Coast, but this was their first opportunity to work together professionally. McLeod's band consists of Stu Hunter on keyboards, Mick Skelton on drums, Patch Brown on guitar and Grant Fitzpatrick on bass.

McLeod will perform at the Cambridge Hotel on Friday, August 19.

Tickets are $13 pre-sale or $15 at the door.
