Half Hart, And A Sense Of Humour

Half Hart, And A Sense Of Humour

Who: Monkey Boy
Where: Northern Star Hotel
When: Saturday April 23, 2005

MICK Hart is no stranger to Newcastle.

The former Central Coast musician frequently makes a stop in the city whether he is touring as a solo artist or with the backing of his band.

He returns this weekend this time as one half of the recently formed outfit Monkey Boy, the two- piece blues/rock combo is Hart's side project with drummer Angus Diggs. Diggs has worked with the likes of Bob Brozman, Jeff Lang and the Backsliders, but has teamed with Hart to create an act that blends flavours of the Black Keys and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. It is step away from what fans have come to expect of Hart.

``In some circles I'm perceived as this serious, brooding songwriter, which is probably a part of me,'' Hart said.

``But there's this other side where I'm a clown and a bit of a kid in a semi- grown up body. It's not that the other project's not fun but there's a definite a wild free, fun factor in this Monkey Boy thing.

``It's purposely got a sense of humour to it.'' Monkey Boy released the debut EP release Can't Get Up In the Morning last year and recently returned with their debut album Bananas and Other Things. Catch Monkey Boy launching the album at the Northern Star Hotel on Saturday night.

Tickets cost $10 at the door.
